FAQ

On this page, we have compiled the most important information and answers to questions regarding the cutting, installation, gluing and cleaning of FN XTRU-pro core skirting boards.
The basic principle is to follow the guidelines set out in the FN Neuhofer installation instructions. To achieve the best end result, we recommend using our dedicated tool kit, designed so that all its components work together perfectly.
We also encourage you to watch our short instructional videos. They provide a practical guide that demonstrates the correct installation method step by step. They will help you work more efficiently, save time and avoid the most common mistakes.

FAQ: Working with a mitre tool

1) Why should you use a mitre tool rather than simply cutting with a saw?
Working with a mitre tool (guillotine) is a quick and convenient method of processing that keeps waste, noise, dust and material loss to a minimum. Thanks to the continuous, sealed polypropylene coating, both internal and external corners remain effectively protected against dirt and moisture.
Cutting the profiles with a saw, however, results in the loss of most of the key properties of XTRU-pro profiles, particularly in the case of internal and external corners.
2) What tools are needed for installation?
The newly developed FN Neuhofer guillotine is available in a handy case containing all the necessary accessories. It can be purchased from local distributors.
3) How do you use a mitre tool (guillotine)?
It’s very simple: measure (internal or external corner – see the instructional video), place the strip in the machine and secure it using the clamping lever, then lower the cutting blade – that’s it
Finally, stick the strip to the wall – and that’s all there is to it.
4) What should you do if the corner is not at a 90-degree angle?
The cutting knife ensures a precise 90° cut, guaranteeing a perfect fit for both internal and external corners. However, if the corner is not completely straight or does not fit perfectly, simply apply some joint filler.
5) Why is gluing better than screwing or stapling (or nailing)?
Fixing skirting boards to the wall using FN Neuhofer hot-melt adhesive is the quickest and most reliable method of installation. The FN Neuhofer hot-melt glue gun is ideal for this – a professional tool system designed by specialists for specialists.

If staples or screws are used for installation, the surface of the skirting board may be damaged.

6) Why is hot-melt bonding the best solution?
Neuhofer FN hot-melt adhesive sticks, specially developed for this purpose, are ideally suited to the specific characteristics of skirting boards and polypropylene (PP) coatings thanks to their technical properties (such as a short processing time and high final bond strength).
7) How do you clean skirting boards?
The floor accumulates the most dirt, particularly in the area immediately adjacent to the skirting boards. This is precisely why FN Neuhofer skirting boards are coated with a high-quality polypropylene (PP) finish, which gives them antibacterial properties and makes them resistant to impacts, scratches and everyday wear and tear, whilst maintaining exceptional durability.
Keeping the skirting boards clean is extremely simple – simply wipe them with a damp cloth, using standard, commonly available cleaning products if necessary. Furthermore, thanks to the use of sealing edges at both the top and bottom of the skirting board, the wall and floor are effectively and durably protected against moisture and dirt.

FAQ: Hot-melt adhesive

How many sticks of glue are there in one bucket?
One oval 5-kilogram bucket contains 66 sticks of hot-melt adhesive.
What colour are the glue sticks?
Hot glue sticks are transparent, which makes it easier to apply the glue and ensures that any minor imperfections remain invisible.
Can adhesives from other manufacturers be used?
This is not the recommended solution. Due to the demanding nature of the polypropylene (PP) coating, the adhesive must be carefully selected and subjected to comprehensive testing and verification – as is the case with FN Neuhofer adhesive.
To achieve the highest quality of the final result, it is essential to strictly follow the installation instructions and guidelines developed by FN Neuhofer.
What is the optimum temperature for applying the adhesive?
The FN Neuhofer hot-melt glue gun is equipped with an electronic display that allows for precise adjustment of operating parameters. The preheating temperature is approximately 180°C and is reached after around 2 minutes.
The optimum glue application temperature ranges from 180°C to a maximum of 220°C. Once applied, the glue remains fully workable for approximately 10–15 seconds, whilst the curing process begins after 20–30 seconds.
